What is Hypertrophy?

Some of you may not know what this term means, the scientific definition of hypertrophy is, the increase in the volume of an organ or tissue due to the enlargement of its component cells.  This means when your muscles increase is size (adding more muscle mass) your muscles are going through hypertrophy. When you are participating in resistance training, you are tearing your muscles, these tears are not big, so they are called microtears.  The healing process for your muscles is to repair the microtears and your muscles build more muscle fibers around that area, so your muscle body increases in size.    

 This is a great, natural process that your muscles go through to make you stronger!  When your muscles get bigger, you notice that you can lift heavier weights and your max becomes your warm up. Anyone who watches or follows golf has heard of the name Brooks Koepka.  Brooks Koepka is one of the bigger golfers on the PGA Tour who preaches that resistance training and gaining muscle will help your golf game. This is basically the Golfsthetics mission statement.  When you are participating in resistance training, the bulk of the muscles that you are working out are the type II, fast twitch, white muscle fibers, these are the muscle fibers that have the ability to accelerate to great speeds to help you increase your club head speed, and in turn, to hit the ball further.  We are here to help you achieve your goals and help you build more muscle to help your game.
